There’s pretty much nothing in my house that is immune to my crafting and DIYing. While I take the time to plan and actually think about my living room redo (Not flying by the seat of my pants? Crazy Town!), I’ve been doing a few quick and easy things here and there.
The most recent victims were the soap dispensers in our master bathroom. That room has seen exactly zero change from the moment we moved into it’s blah blah builder’s beige glory, so it needed a little Lindsay-fying. And Oh, Deer! It got a little Makely touch.
These DIY soap dispensers were so easy to put together. They are probably a little over the top for some of you, but they are hilarious to me.
I started with a little deer figurine that I picked up at Michael’s. I considered a few other animals (Emma was really gunning for me to use a tiger), but I thought that the deer may help my faux taxidermy fetish.
I cut off his head with a knife. “OHHHHH NOOOOOO,” I said in my best Mr. Bill voice. Too much?
This little plastic figurine was solid, which made it take a while to decapitate him. If you are going to do this, try to find a hollow one – look at the Dollar Store.
Then, I used my hot glue gun and attached his head to my soap dispenser (just a Method brand dispenser from Target with the label removed). I drew a crest shape with a gold metallic paint pen (which is oil-based so it doesn’t wash off or scratch). It’s not perfect and it definitely looks hand drawn, but that’s what I was going for. I considered using a vinyl cut out with my Silhouette, but that would have looked too mass produced for this project.
I had the left over hind quarters, so I figured Tom needed his soap dispenser Lindsay-fied, too.
HA! It cracks me up. I told Tom that I just couldn’t let the rest of that poor deer go to waste. He got a little chuckle out of it, too, but I don’t think the finds it nearly as funny as I do.
It’s okay to have a little fun with simple things around your home. In fact, I think you should.

Great job! At first I thought they were totally decals…your idea is even better!
The only thing I’ve tried with soap dispensers, is to put legos in with the soap! The kids ( & adults) love seeing them floating around!
Lindsay Ballard says
I LOVE that idea, Terri! I might have to do that. My kiddos (and husband) are Lego obsessed.

LOL They’ll either love it or think you are wacky!

This is so creative. 🙂 I’d try this using other animals instead. Cutting off the head seems like a hard task for me since my knives need to be replaced.
Lindsay Ballard says
Yeah, I needed a sharp knife for sure! Perhaps a hollow animal would have been easier to cut.

My wife is a crafty individual also. Every time I come home from work, she always has and idea to tell me, or a craft that she did to show me.
