I am always surprised with the comments I get on my blog after I post photos of a boldly painted wall or brightly painted piece of furniture. For the most part, I hear the oooohs and ahhhhs that I say to myself when I finish a project. But sometimes, I hear, “I love it, but I don’t think I could pull off a bright yellow dresser.”
Why not?
How many of you feel scared to add color to your home? What if you paint a wall blue and don’t like it? Well, what if you paint a wall blue and love it? It’s just paint after all.
So, for all of my friends who are a wee bit nervous to take the dive, Glidden has created a new online community called My Colortopia. Today, I am pleased excited overjoyed to announce that I have joined a field of jaw dropping home decor bloggers in contributing color inspiration and how to ideas on the My Colortopia blog. Seriously. It’s the big dogs – Centsational Girl, Brooklyn Limestone, Ana White, Making it Lovely, The Inspired Room, In My Own Style – and little ‘ole me. My first how to, Choosing the Right Brushes and Rollers for your project, has just been posted to the blog.
The folks at Glidden have big plans for My Colortopia. Right now, the site is a fabulous blog. Very soon it will transform into a source of inspiration, a community of home decor enthusiasts, and a place to get your color and painting questions answered by people like me who never can never seem to get all of the paint washed out of their hair. Go ahead and bookmark it now. I’ll let you know when the fun goodies have gone live.
So, tell me about you and the color choices in your home. What’s the one color you’d love to add but you feel nervous about it? Blue? Pink? Orange? Charcoal Gray?
I have partnered with Glidden/ Akzo Nobel Paints to participate in the My Colortopia program but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I have always loved color. Blue to be specific. Any shade, any room. Even when I rented, I would paint the bathroom blue so I didn’t have to live with all white walls. it is only paint, and it can be painted white again. I now have an antique ruby red dining room… so rich! The kitchen is deep golden yellow and oranges, very Mexican! I have deep blue on the entry walls. I have found one of the cheapest ways to add life to a room is the color on the walls. (Or ceiling!)

I’m scared of color!! Which is why when I ended up using color, I used it in my coat closet! LOL
I would love to do a bold colors in my home but the colors I LOVE are usually dark and my home is already dark!

In my last house, we had a blue room, a red room, a purple bedroom, a chocolate brown studio for me, a green office that was a bit much by my hubby loved it) and a sage green bathroom. It was awesome. (there were a few contractor white rooms we hadn’t gotten to) We proved the realtors wrong and only repainted the purple and green rooms. One went taupe and the other to a rust/orange color. The realtors were so mad at us, but the house still sold in 45 days! People love color! That was the one comment potential buyers kept telling us, they loved the color! Our current house, I am still working on the color scheme. The flippers painted EVERYTHING beige. I have painted two rooms so far. Lots more to go.
I love your use of color and love that you aren’t afraid of it.

I’ve found that I love looking at color in pictures but not living with a lot of it–I get tired of it so easily! 🙁 So I’ll just continue to live vicariously through you and other bloggers who love living with color and do it so beautifully. 🙂

When my sister moved in with me, she painted her room bright green with a sky-blue ceiling, and her bathroom hot pink with a yellow-orange ceiling. I have a smallish bedroom-turned-den that I’d love to paint a dark red, or maybe do some metallic gold or silver stripes or stenciling. Right now it’s the goldish beige that it was when I bought the house, but it goes nicely with the red/black/gold color scheme, so I’m leaving it until I figure out exactly what I want.

I’m not really too afraid of color, but I’m also such a fan of the creamy whites and tans and neutrals, it just does something for me. The one color I’d never really use is purple, I just don’t love it. And red in small doses, but never a wall, but again I don’t love it. And I love your big old bright yellow dresser!

Believe it or not, our house is too colourful right now. The main floor looks like “a Mexican restaurant” according to my husband. It was that way when we moved in and I loved it at the time, but now I’d like some calmer colours that flow from one room to the other. I think we’re going to keep the orange tile and the green cupboards (seriously!) and go with a neutral grey wall soon.

I love color! I painted my kitchen walls “Cactus Green” or as my husband refers to it “Fisher Price Green” – it’s bold and it looks great flowing into my living/dining area that is painted greige. My bedroom is sage – the kid’s room and my office I kept neutral – it’s a beige the color of wet sand (which was exactly what I wanted). I am an accent queen, so I love throwing bold colors around on the neutral walls whether it be art, lamps, knick knacks, etc – right now my scheme in the living is green/turquoise/rust.
