Decorating Like the Cha Cha Slide

by Lindsay Ballard on March 26, 2014 15 Comments

When most people think about a new bedroom design, adjectives such as peaceful, relaxing and calm spring to mind.  They want their bedrooms, particularly a master bedroom, to be a quiet solitude in an otherwise crazy house.  They want it to be an easy space to live and just be.

But, I’m not like most people.  I don’t want my bedroom to be tranquil.  I want it to reflect the personalities of the people who sleep there.  For our master bedroom, the place where we Netflix binge, work on our computers, and don’t sleep as much as we should, I wanted it to feel differently.  In fact, I wanted to it to feel like that part of the Cha Cha Slide where they clap a whole lot.  “Everybody clap your hands!”

As a side note: If the Cha Cha slide is ever playing, I will drop what I’m doing and and get funky. Every. single. time.  You can’t stop me, even if you try.  And people have tried.

So, I’ve been asked today to describe my bedroom style as part of the What’s Your Style blog series. Is the clapping part of the Cha Cha Slide a decorating style?  Sure it is.

Okay, so what does a room look like that feels like the Cha Cha Slide?  To me, it looks like this – happy, vibrant, and fun.  There’s lots of movement and lots of texture.  It’s energetic.

I very much feel the same way about Emma’s bedroom.  But instead of the clapping part, her bedroom style is more the “now it’s time to get funky” part of the Cha Cha Slide.  I don’t think I really need to explain that.

The thing about decorating is that you can base it off of whatever you want to.  You can be inspired by a rug.  You could want a shark themed room (like my son does – his is the next room on my hit list).  Or you can realize that your decor gives you the feeling of doing the Cha Cha Slide.  Whatever feeling you want to go with, I think you should just follow your heart.

LOL! Thanks, Cindy! I love those frames, too. I was worried that I would get tired of them, but I haven’t yet!

I’m pretty sure I need you to come help decorate the extremely cookie-cutter, suburban home we’re in the process of buying. I like to think of my style as “eclectic chic” and I’m always on the lookout for something cool and/or funky to jump out at me.
