Dying Over Overdyed Rugs

by Lindsay Ballard on December 7, 2012 6 Comments

Even though the hustle and bustle of Christmas is upon us, I haven’t given up on my (pipe) dream of having my office finished by the end of the year.  So far, I have cleared the office of the clutter, installed a Herringbone wood wall, painted the ceiling and other walls, and transformed a few pieces of furniture (updates on those coming soon).  Whew!

I still have a few things to do, including building my own (very ambitious) light fixture, but items are quickly being marked off of my to do list.  One of those items is finding a rug for the room.

I really love the overdyed rug trend happening right now, so that’s the route I’m going for my office. Generally, these rugs feature traditional patterns with a super saturated dye that has been poured on the top.  You can buy a vintage rug that has been dyed for mega bucks (like this many: $$$$$$).  Or, you can choose a mass produced version with a more budget-friendly price (more like this: $$$). Whichever you choose, the bright colors and distressed areas bring a modern twist to traditional styling.

And they are oh, so Lindsay, don’t you think?

The rugs don’t always have a traditional oriental pattern to them, though.  Check out these beauties:

Squeee!  These rugs just make me so happy.  I even started a Pinterest board with some more faves.

I bit the bullet and bought one of these beauties for my office.  It’s currently on it’s way to my house. Any guesses as to the one I picked?

PS. I’ve heard from other blogging buddies that Rugs USA has great sales.  At the time of writing this post, a lot of these rugs were on sale for 50% off.  I don’t know how long that will last or how often it happens.

I’m crossing my fingers you got the teal rug cause that’s the one I’ve been eyeballing on Overstock but I’ve never seen the overdyed rug in person or on someones blog in a real room. I can’t wait to see yours! It will probably determine whether I get one too!

My guess is the multi color Ikat. I’ve yet to see this style of rug. I’m envious of your progress with your office…months later, I’m still trying to get mine done! We move at a snail’s pace around here…
