For several months now, I’ve been trying to picture in my mind’s eye the perfect nursery to assemble for my soon-to-be little one. All I can picture is soft, neutral colors. No bright pink or bright blue. No giant polka dots on the walls. No cars painted on every square inch of space (although we still love my son’s room).
I thought it was odd that I kept gravitating to white and tan. Those colors don’t seem very “baby” to me, but it was really the direction I was headed. Then, I saw this photo, and I knew I was right on the money.

I plan on mimicking the canopy over the crib, the sweet shelf hanging on the wall (mine will showcase vintage baby clothes), the chandelier, and even the paint and trim technique. My crib is a blonde wood, but I still think I can make it work – my grandmother bought the crib for us as a gift before my son was born, so I’m NOT going to get rid of it simply because it doesn’t match perfectly.
The only thing that I think I will change will to be to add in some tiny pink accents. I definitely don’t want anything over the top, but I do want to add it in somewhere for an elegant splash of color.
Wait, did you catch that? Pink?!? It’s a GIRL!
Congrats on your GIRL!!!!! How exciting! When we did Indy's nursery, it was done in white and tan with touches of blue. I loved it. It was our favorite room in the house because it was so soothing.
I can't wait to see HER nursery!
Congrats on the new little one… I love muted tones like that as well. My husband is totally into dinosaurs for if we ever have a nursery. I will have to somehow incorporate that as well. I am thinking vintage prints or something like that.
Congrats girl! I guess your instincts were wrong, don't worry, when your kids get to be teenagers you'll be wrong A LOT! π
Love the nursery inspiration, can't wait to watch you do your thing!
Pink touches here and there would be gorgeous to that neutral pallet. I'm sure what ever you do will be beautiful. As she gets older be prepared for more than a few touches of pink. My daughter is 3 and her room is now an EXPLOSION of pink. Not what I had planned. Congratulations, girls are great.
CONGRATS!!!! I don't even know you and I'm SO excited! Probably because I wanted a girl and had 3 boys! And this room is oh so chic! Clean even!
Can't wait for you to get started!
Well, congrats on the new baby on the way! I love this nursery picure. The pink accents will be beautiful! I've been making crib bedding and have been laying out tan and white fabric. I wondered if it would be liked by anyone. Sort of the soft, cottage look. Well, mine is more of a natural colored linen and ivory linen. This picture clinches it. I'm gonna make one.
I hope you post the finished room.
Kelly
congrats on the girl and I think that room is gorgeous. Can't wait to see your version. Also couldn't you paint the crib to match?
Congratulations! It will be fun to decorate for a girl this time.
Congratulations….girl's are so much fun!!! I love the nursery pic too!

Congratulations! i love the inspiration room- very calming!! And you can add some blush and maybe a deeper rose. Just a touch. π
Yay! I guessed right. My daughter is having to share her bedroom with the baby. She's going with pale pinks, beige and a ballerina theme. I love your inspiration. I'll have to show it to her.
Congrats! Youβll have the best of both worlds! Canβt wait to see the space you create for your new little one.

Congrats, Lindsay. π You are going to love having a girl…it's a lot of drama, but like having your own personal baby doll. π
I was thinking that the chandy and canopy were a bit girlie looking, so I am very glad you are having a girl. π
Congrats! That's great news!
I knew it!! π
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for you. And the color scheme is awesome!
Congratulations. Girls are wonderful. You are lucky to have both.
This nursery is very pretty. Neutrals seem to be the latest thing. Hard for a color evangelist like me but I do like the furniture and the chandelier. I know what you pull together will be original and eye popping. Again, congrats on that baby girl.
Yay for a girl! Love the nursery plan!
YAY! I was right! Many, many congratulations! Nothing is cuter than a baby girl with ruffle bloomers on her little bottom π
I love the inspiration pick, and congrats!
Yes yes I sure did catch that! Congrats on the baby being a girl π That is super fun π
AHHH!!! Congratulations! Yippy Skippy for you! And kudos for pink accents instead of pepto bismol room. Blek.
YaY for you! Congrats…and love the nursery idea!
AHhh! Congratulations on the BABY GIRL!! They're so much fun!
Can't wait to see the final outcome of the nursery as I'm sure it will be absolutely fabulous!

I love that room. Adorable! You could definitely add a little bit of pink in matting or light pink vintage dress or a pink bow around a bears neck. My daughter's room was p-i-n-k and I loved it, but this is so cute! Can't wait to see it.
CONGRATS on the pink baby dust!
Be careful of curtains and whatnot hanging next to a crib. I have a grabby little girl and needed to move the crib away from the curtains. Don't want them to pull it down on top of them!
I got a gorgeous canopy for my oldest and we waited till she was in her "big girl bed" before putting it up.
Congrats again and I can't wait to see what you do with your girly nursery!
I LOVE it! the crib's gonna be just fine π And the pink accent will be wonderful. I'm looking forward to see that nursery!
Congratulations!!

Hi Lindsay,
I will for sure let you know when the bedding is done! I'm getting started on it very soon.
Kelly
Can't wait to see the finished nursery. Congrats on your baby girl!
Congratulations – and I agree, a neutral nursery is beautiful!
OMG, congrats Lindsay!! GO team pink. And I think nursery done in neutrals would be so serene!
Yay for pink!!!!! Congrats!!!! I know the nursery will be beautiful no matter what.
congrats on the girl!!!
Oh, I love that room!!! It's perfect! And congrats on a baby girl! Are you ready to share that glue gun? π
Blessings,
Traci
Aw, congrats! Love the neutral nursery and looking forward to see what you come up with. I know it will be fab!
Blessings to your family. I think the "soothing" comment says it all. My daughter had something similar with a Winnie the Pooh (the understated color one) motif. She called the color "taupe" and took much teasing for it. It looked stunning and soothing. She used a light wood crib and natural shelf and wood valance to match.
I just discovered your website and am delighted!
congrats on the girl!!! I love the neutral, so sweet and perfect. However, you are a strong woman to not want to go all out pink and purple after having a boy! have fun with it, I can't wait to see what you come up with!
Congrats! I kinda wish now that we would've found out what we're having. It would make decorating so much easier! π Oh well, I only have a month more to go before we find out anyway.
Only one?????? haha…. I said girl!
YAY, congrats! AND I am loving this nursery, wish I would have seen this pic before my little one was born. Can't wait to see pics after you DIY.

Congratulations! My son and daughter in law found out they will be having a baby girl in July – our first grandchild! This nursery is lovely!
aww a girl! congrats! Love your nursery inspiration, too!
OMG that is so great! I LOVE having a little girl. Clothes! Bows! Shoes! PINK! Have fun!!!

Congratulations! A little girl is sooo precious! I always wanted one, but we have a boy (I still love him anyway haha). The inspiration picture is beautiful and so will be whatever you come up with. I can't wait to see it! Just a side note however, a canopy above a crib with the curtains hanging down is a very big safety issue. You may want to rethink that and maybe hold off until she is older to use it.
Yeah!! A baby girl and she will have a big brother, how great!!!
Congratulations!!!! Love the nursery!
Yay for a GIRL! Congratulations!
I really love that room – it's so peaceful!
Congratulations on your new baby girl!!! How fun to do pink!
Congratulations and best wishes from a mom of two little girl! π
Her nursery'll be surely marvellous. π
Congratulations. After decorating nurseries for 2 boys, we had soooo much fun doing our daughter's room. I can't wait to see what you come up with (and what ideas i can borrow)!
HURRAY HURRAY HURRAY!!! Congratulations on the news of your baby girl π
This nursery is STUNNING. Amazing. So elegant. Great choice! Congrats on the bebe girl!!!!

awww……CONGRATS!!!
I can't say I agree. . .but that must be my interior design background. The room is great, I'll give you that. . .but not for a BABY?? I agree that you don't have to go over board with pink, blue, cars, or polka dots or the usual stereotypical baby designs. . .but there has been much research as to color for soothing and stimulating babies and tan/beige and white just doesn't offer either. It would work if you have some small areas of color-maybe one accent wall or a coordinating lamp shade, rug, and pillow. Of course this room does not look anything like a realistic baby's room. . .where are the toys, books, where is the LOVE? Its a nice ideal, but it just does not work for me-I'm sure you will make it your own design though. Good luck with the new little one and the design of the room.
I love your inspiration piece and can't wait to watch it unfold here on your blog. Congrats on the pink…I bet you still can't get over it π
How awesome Lindsay! You should of known your mom was right! I knew it was a girl! Yahoo!
Congratulations on your girl! I love the idea you've chosen.
CONGRATS!!! So happy that you are having a girl. Can't go wrong with one of each!
Congratulations! I am also having a baby girl due at the end of June!
I struggled with decor for a long time. I envisioned something that goes with the rest of my decor taste. something darker, with lots of great and a colour accent or purple, cause there is WAY too much pink out there. But alas I could not find fabrics that I liked and got all upset and in one of those hasty moments of indecision that come in pregnancy purchased a fabric that i really love but that is pink and green… and i didnt just get a bit. Oh no. I got $200 worth! dont make that mistake. if you cant find what you are looking for. go home, calm down and think. dont buy $200 worth of fabric that makes you change everything.
its the opposite of what you are showing here (which I DO love btw and might use for our second child down the road) its all very modern with bright pinks and greens. I intend to do the room with white and grey walls and only the bedding and a dresser in bright pink.
Hi i am just wondering if you kow where you can buy that canopy?? thanks! its beautiful!
