The set-up and prep work for spray painting is often the hardest part of the job. I like to use my paint sprayer (and even rattle cans) in my garage, so I can work in the shade. I’ve done everything from covering my garage in plastic to building my own temporary spray paint booth. Both worked great, but they were a lot of hassle to deal with.
Luckily, HomeRight has come to my rescue (again!) with their new Spray Shelter. The portable, collapsible Spray Shelter is much like an easy put together tent. It footprint is about 8 1/2 feet by 6 feet, so you have plenty of room to fit all sorts of furniture and projects inside of it.
Yep, I set it up in my bedroom – just to test out how to put it together. I certainly didn’t do it in my bedroom because my garage is full of projects and it’s 100 degrees outside. Nope, not at all.
This is what it looks like in the little bag that you store it in. It’s about a third of the size of a folding camp chair.
The assembly instructions are attached to the bag, which is awesome for someone like me who needs to read and reread the instructions.
Inside the bag, you will find the shelter, a long bag of tent poles and a smaller bag of hooks that you use if you are setting it up in the grass.
To assemble, you put down a drop cloth, put the poles in the fabric pockets, and hook the poles to the shelter. My friend Gail at My Repurposed Life made this great video that shows the assembly process. I tried to do it without watching her video, and I got really frustrated. So, watch Gail’s video and save yourself some time!
Once it’s assembled, the Spray Shelter is HUGE! My kids loved it, and they can even fit across it laying head to head.
Not sure why Zack has that look on his face in every picture I took. Ha!

What a kewl tent. There are times when I have to paint outdoors, then dust and bugs seem to just gravitate towards my project. This tent would really help out when having to work outdoors. I’ve been putting off spraying my kitchen cabinet doors and newly built laundry room cabinets because I didn’t want to build a spray booth that I’d have to take down during the week and rebuild for how ever many weekends it takes me to do the massive project.
