You’re So Vain

With my powder bathroom re-do well under way, free standing sink vanities have been on my mind.  There are many different types of vanities available both online and in home improvement stores that will fit into most types of decor.

Well, except mine.  Because you know, I can’t just settle for a plain ‘ole vanity, right?  Aww, you know me so well!

I pulled together some inspiration photos when contemplating our new vanity, and I thought I’d share them with you today.  There are some really creative people out there (which is the understatement of the century, I know).

Artist Benjamin Bullins installed this amazing bicycle vanity made from reclaimed items in a bathroom in New Orleans.  If I had the space, I am positive that I would have been a big fat copy cat on this one.

In a converted barn, Carrier and Company Interiors in New York created this farm-themed bathroom.  I’m not really sure if they used a reclaimed feeding trough, but it sure looks like it.  This would be fun for a country cottage home.

What about this darling sink Laura of The Little House in the City spotted at a flea market?  How fun!  These old sewing machine tables can be found at just about every antique store in the country.  This would be an easy DIY.

Gina at Willow Decor (who has a gorgeous home, by the way) had this galvanized wash tub sink custom made for her laundry room.  Isn’t it so pretty?

And last but not least, my very favorite of the pack.  Plans for this table to vanity conversion can be purchased from Plans Now if you don’t want to try your hand at figuring it out on your own.

    I think the bike is very clever – whoever thought that up is a mad genius. Who would ever think of putting a bike in a bathroom?

    I just love the big washbin sink for a laundry room. Cheap and so functional.

    I really like how the last one has such great counterspace. It feels a little disjointed to me because the sink basin and faucet is so modern and the table is so country. Maybe if it were all one color?

      I totally agree! The last one is the one I’m going to replicate, and I think that the color and styling choice in that photo isn’t great. I’ll likely paint it a nice neutral gray and do a vessel sink that not quite so modern. I think (and hope!) that it will work.

    I adore these! I also have my mom’s sewing machine base. And if I used my bike, it probably would get more use than it’s getting now! Unfortunately, I don’t think I have the courage to rip out either one of my relatively new vanity cabinets. But … this is giving me some less drastic ideas for my sewing machine base. Thanks!

    The bike is definitely a conversation starter. The treadle sewing machine is cool but is it too short? The farm table is my favorite. One of my friends used a side board for the vanity in her master bath. Her hubby converted it and they paid about 75 bucks for the oak piece. It was in sad shape but she fixed it right up. It is gorgeous.

    Those are sooo cute!! I need my drawers and cabinets, though! I’d be lost without all the extra (out of sight!) storage space.

    I am loving the farm house sink, and the laundry sink and the last sink. I really like a dresser turned into a sink. Personally my vanities are pretty boring in comparison, but I’m pretty happy with them. I hope you find what you are looking for!

    I love the bike. I can only imagine the wow factor when somebody walks into the bathroom. But I do agree that by using your favorite table and converting it into a sink, you could do just about anything!

    Oh my gosh! I just popped over to see what you’ve been up to but now I have flipped head over heels with these sink bases. They will be consuming my thoughts until I find a way to have my own unique and whimsical sink base. That’s how my mind works. It’s a sickness…and a gift. 🙂 Lisa~
