Book Pages, Nests and Twine…Oh my!

by Lindsay Ballard on June 8, 2011 829 Comments

It’s been far too long since I’ve shared a fun glue gun craft with you.  I’ve had one (in my mind) for quite sometime, but I just needed a little kick in the pants to get going on it.

My friend Traci at Beneath My Heart asked me to put together a little guest post for her blog, so I thought that was the perfect excuse to put together a new project.

It combines two of my favorite things – book pages and birds’ nests!  Here’s a tiny little sneak peek of just a portion of the project, but you’ll have to hop on over to Traci’s blog to see the final results and read the tutorial.

Twine Bird Nests

P.S.  My friends on the Living With Lindsay Facebook page got to see the final project earlier this week.  If you don’t already, please “Like” my poor, neglected Facebook page by clicking here or you through the Facebook widget on my sidebar.  I’m revamping things over there, and there’s something special coming up soon just for FB folks – you don’t want to miss out!

Note to Self

by Lindsay Ballard on June 6, 2011 25 Comments

On Saturday morning, I got up before the rest of my family to spray paint my now unsmelly thrift store dresser.  When you live where I live, the best spray painting is done before 7 am when it’s not too hot and the wind is eerily still.  Crazy, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

The grass was dewey when I headed into the backyard, so I put down a plastic tarp to protect my dresser.  I normally use a canvas tarp when painting, but I didn’t want the grass to get it wet.

After I painted the dresser, we ran some errands and then came back home to bring the it inside.  Tom and I were surprised to see how much moisture was on the bottom of the plastic tarp.  I guess the sun had drawn all of the moisture out of the grass, which, in turn, became severely dehydrated in a few short hours.

The good news is that my dresser looks amazing (and I will reveal it to you soon).  The bad news is that the grass now looks like this:

Note to self: 100 degree heat + plastic sheeting over moist lawn = dead grass.  Hopefully, it will come back pretty quickly.  If not, our backyard will serve as a reminder of my stupidity for the rest of the summer.
