I’m back with Part 2 of the 2015 HGTV Smart Home photo tour! It wouldn’t be lying to say that I like the second floor even more than the first floor. If you missed Part 1, be sure to check it out here first.
Family Room
As you head up the staircase, you are greeted with more of the natural wood trim that we saw downstairs.
That focal wall continues into the family room. I love that!
Also in the family room, there are a pair of curtained reading nooks. What a fun way to seclude yourself from the rest of the world.
Master Bedroom
The crown jewel of the home (in my opinion) is the master bedroom. The pictures really speak for themselves.
Gah!
The skylights have shades controlled by a wireless remote.
I love how the designer also used the wood strips for focal walls in this room, too, but she had them painted to match the walls.
Now THIS is what every master bedroom needs – at least mine does! It’s a coffee station.
But when you hit a button on the remote, the coffee maker lifts up and the space becomes a bar. Genius!
I love that stainless penny round tile, too. It looks really funky in a more traditional bedroom. That tile is manufactured by Shaw.
Master Bathroom
The master bathroom rivals the bedroom in its beauty.
Like the guest bath, this bathroom has another great tile combination. Both of these are from Shaw’s Rockwood collection. I really love the basketweave floor.
The master bath also features another fabulous light fixture. And another “Gah!” from me.
Kid’s Bedroom
The kid’s bedroom was awesome – and it was packed with people! I only got one shot of the room, which is too bad because it features my favorite flooring component.
Folks, meet the Life Happens collection by Shaw. This carpet (shown in Organic Garden) has Shaw’s new innovative LifeGuard backing system that has a built in moisture barrier. It’s both WATERPROOF and treated with a stain and soil resistance product. My current (gross) carpet has a moisture resistant barrier in the padding, but not the carpet itself. That means that spills get through the carpet and just sort of sit on top of the padding. And did I mention that it’s gross? Yuck. I swear, I want to rip it up and put this new Life Happens collection in my living areas!
Kid’s Bathroom
The kid’s bathroom is very pretty, with its Carrara marble-look tile by Shaw. Yes, you can get the marble look for less!
You’ll also see the natural wood accents echoed in this room. I love it when a theme that runs throughout the entire house.
Laundry Room
Last but not least is the laundry room. I always take a look at laundry rooms in designer houses, because I I like to see the materials they used. Here are more of the porcelain tiles that are capped in stainless metal.
The laundry room also has Shaw’s Floorté resilient vinyl flooring. The cool thing about RVF is that it looks like wood, but it’s not – so it can literally go anywhere in the home where wood is not recommended – like bathrooms and laundry rooms. It is waterproof and easy to maintain.
I also love looking at flooring transitions to see how the designers handle them. The RVF and hardwood floors are different colors, but they don’t look bad together. I think you just have to be really selective with the types and colors of floors that go in next to each other.
Well, that is that! I hope you enjoyed this photo tour of the 2015 HGTV Smart Home in Austin, Texas.
