Swedish Meatballs + Fabric = Love

Today, I ventured over to Ikea to look for something (that they didn’t have) for a project I’m working on. More on that another day. But, I had some time to kill before picking up Zack from preschool, so I thought I’d take a look at their fabric selections (after eating a healthy serving of Swedish meatballs and Lingonberry sauce).  I must say that I was pleasantly surprised!

I’ve never taken the time to check out their by-the-yard fabrics, because I always just assumed that the prints were not my style.  Oh, how I have been wrong!  Not only are the prints fun (and I was told that the more modern, graphic prints will be in stores soon), but the quality is great and the price is right.  The fabric is decorator weight and is $8.99/yard at most, so if they have something that fits your style, that is a hard combination to beat.

I’m trying to inject more color into my home, and I was delighted to find this fabric for $7.99:

Annamoa in Light Yellow

The colors are much brighter in person than they show on my screen (for instance, what looks gold here is really bright orange) and the print is very large.  The blue is the same color as my dining room walls AND it showcases my unhealthy obsession with birds and birdcages.  Really.  You should talk to Susan about the number of bird cages I found at Round Top this weekend that I really wanted to buy.  It was obnoxious, but I still wish I would have bought one of the 4-foot tall ones we found.

Anyway, I was very excited to find this great fabric, and I can’t wait to run it through my sewing machine.  I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to do with it quite yet – because I’m still not sure myself – but it’s going to be cute!

If you have an Ikea nearby, I recommend you take a gander at their fabric choices the next time you need a bold print.  Here are a few more that I like:

    No way!! I was just at Ikea yesterday (and I only get there less than once a year so this post is such a coincidence!) and almost bought that exact fabric! Well, truthfully, I almost bought so many of the fabrics there, but instead just bought some plain yellow and a creamy taupe I found in the as-is room! But I haven’t stopped thinking about that fabric all day now! So regret not buying it and now you go and post it!! Drooling again!

    I’ve been looking for just the right wall paper for a closet (I know it’s silly to paper a closet), but I think I’m going to have to check out the IKEA fabric section first. Thanks for the tip!

    I actually use Ikea fabric for loads of things: curtains obviously, bedlinen for my soon to arrive baby, cushions, skirts for my 4 year-old little girl, homemade bag for church things, pajamas for my 2 year-old little boy, etc! It is really hard where I live to find good quality fabric at a reasonable cost so it’s usually the first place I look…

    I LOVE Ikea fabric. I use it in my teething rails because of its canvassy strength. I was an idiot and moved away from Utah, and now I am Ikealess and Grandma Sycamore Bread-less. Free teething rails to anyone who will send me a box of that dang bread!

    I grabbed some of the oil-cloth like red polka dot fabric to use as a summer table cloth. I may try to make a few pillows for the porch, but that may or may not actually happen. There’s also a really pretty/graphic-y black white & green bird print that I made into a skirt a few years ago.

    I have used Ikea fabric to cover a canvas frame. It was a wild, retro-type fabric with pattern – actually there were two matching prints so I made a set and sold them on ebay. Made a nice profit! I made a little girls basic pinafore type dress with the remainder.
