I’m going to publicly admit that the big project of 2013 has been put on hold for a bit. I’m sad – super sad, y’all – but I’ve decided that I want to put new flooring in the entire downstairs instead of just some of it. That means I need to save more money so that we can get started. I’m being a grown up about it and waiting until I have enough money to get what I really want. This is progress, people!
So while I wait, I’m going to move on to a much more inexpensive room – our master closet! In all actuality, our closet functions perfectly fine. We have plenty of hanging space and plenty of shelving, so I don’t need to reinvent the wheel. But, it’s very basic – and very builder’s grade. It definitely lacks the personality and oompf of the rest of the house.
I’ve been pinning some dream closets that have features I’d like to have in my own closet. I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you.
This is how I organize my closet now – like garments hung together and sorted by color. I think it’s a sickness, but I have to have my closet organized from light to dark. And you people who throw your clothes on the floor? Does not compute. I had a college roommate who would hang her clothes inside out on the hangers if if that’s how they came out of the dryer. Before seeing that, it had never occurred to me that someone might do that. GASP! College was a learning experience.
Anyway, I love the gray shelving and the natural colored wooden hangers (and OCD hanging). Via AnnieSchlechter.com
I love how this closet features shelving above the doorway to the bedroom. It’s such empty space otherwise, so I think I may try to add this into my closet. Tom says that “unused space isn’t a crime,” but I think it is in a closet. Via House & Home Magazine
In a closet, you can never have too many shelves, right? We don’t just keep clothing and shoes in our closet. It also houses some of our computer components like the router, wireless access point, and our printer. I’m going to try to add some more shelves so we’ll have some more space for the things we keep in there. Via Clos-ette
I’m a big, fat sucker for wall pattern, and the closet should be no different. I love this wallpaper mixed with the dark wood accents. I won’t be wallpapering, but I do have a little pattern idea rolling around in my head. Tom has suggested a repeating pattern of Mudflap Girls, but I gave him the evil eye. Via Domino Magazine.
I am really digging the dark wood with gray walls in this closet. My closet is too small to go this dark, but I’m considering painting the shelving and the walls a shade of gray. Picking the perfect shade is going to be a challenge, but I’m up for it. Via Robeson Design.
I sketched out my plans yesterday afternoon, and I showed them to Tom last night. He has “some concerns” about the layout. We’ll get it worked out!
What about you? Do you have a dream closet? What do you love about it? If not, what do you wish your closet had (other than amazing clothes!)?
Redoing my closest was the first time I felt truly self-indulgent…and that was FINE BY ME!
You are such great inspiration, thank you! And yes, that upper inside space above the doorway of the closet for a shelf-awesome idea!
My closet is chuck full of fabric! You mean that is where my clothes are supposed to go?!? But seriously who has such well lit closets? ;-). Have fun scheming up your new storage solution
Well I for one, hang some things inside out as it saves the shoulder poofing on t-shirts and sweaters. Just sayin’
I have a small closet and don’t know how to organize it any better than I do. It has sliding doors and Iwish it were larger so I could have things not come out wrinkled all the time. I guess I will have to get rid of some things to have more room. I have a large open space above the top shelf but its too high for me to reach. Gosh I wish I had a bigger closet. Thanks
I need to go through my closet and get rid of the clothes I havent worn in probably 10 years, LOL! Its so crowded. Then maybe I can invest in those nice-looking wooden hangers and get rid of the ugly, colorful plastic ones. 😉
