How to Have an Eclectic Home {in 31 Easy Steps}

by Lindsay Ballard on September 2, 2013 6 Comments

Have you ever wanted to give your personal style a shot in the rear?  A booster shot, if you will, to kick it up a level and really break out of a rut?

Girl (or Boy), I have been there.  In fact, this entire blog is really a testament to what happened when I stopped doing what I thought I should do and starting doing what a I wanted to do.

A few years ago, I wrote a series on how to work towards having an eclectic home.  For 31 straight days (this was a HUGE thing for me then, people), I gave tips, tricks and inspiration on how to have an eclectic style.

It’s been a long time since I mentioned the series, so I wanted to take today to put it out there again in case you missed it or could use a little refresher.  I have added links below to all of the 31 posts so that you could easily take a gander at them in the order they were written.  They aren’t very long, so it shouldn’t take you long to get through them.

Ready?  Here we go!

{31 Days to an Eclectic Home} Day 31 – Have It Your Way

by Lindsay Ballard on October 31, 2011 84 Comments

Today is Day 31 of a 31 day series on creating and cultivating an eclectic home.  For some crazy reason, I have accepted The Nester’s challenge to write on the same theme every day for the month of October.  This may end up killing me.  Or you.  But, I appreciate you reading and welcome your comments.

For the past 31 days, I’ve been running my mouth (fingers?) about creating an eclectic home.  I don’t pretend to be an expert about anything, but it’s been fun sharing my ideas with you.  I know eclecticism is not a style that is embraced by everyone, but more and more I see people moving that way.  I have just been delighted in the response this little series has received.

As our last day draws to a close, I just want to issue one final directive:  Have it your way.  Whether you are at Burger King or in your own home, YOU have the ability to do whatever you want.  Paint a crazy pattern on the walls or keep them sleek and white.  Paint a chair frame bright pink or just add a colorful collection of throw pillows.  Ask for extra pickles or ask for none at all.  It’s totally up to you.

And do you want to know the cool thing?  There’s no “right” or “wrong.”  Throughout the series, I’ve talked about some guidelines and they are simply just that – guides to get you started.  Embrace them or ignore them.  It is YOUR home and YOUR style, and it is unlike anyone else’s.  Think of it as your very own snowflake.

Thank you so much for joining me over the past month.  I’ll leave my 31 days button in my side bar; clicking on it takes you to all 31 entries.  For those of you who are new, welcome to my world and I hope you’ll stick around!  I’ve got some fun things I’m working on, and I look forward to sharing them with all of you soon.

Until then?  I think it’s finally time for a nap.
