Hi – I am trying to update some very traditional dining room furniture with new knobs/pulls. Since I could not find any pulls in the right size, my next thought was to spray paint them. I am going for an antique silver/pewter color. The pulls came off of the drawers just fine but my problem is the hinges and the china cabinet door pulls. On the door pulls, there is only one screw for the knob and then there is a plate behind it that won’t come off (it must be glued or tacked on somehow). I was wondering if you knew of any paint that I could use to paint these things while they are still on the furniture (since I can’t get them off). I thought maybe I could take a small brush and some model paint and try (very carefully) to paint them. There are only 4 (maybe 5) so then I thought I could spray paint everything else. Do you have any thoughts. Love your website!!

      Hi Audrey!

I would think that if you put a really good primer on them (like a Zinsser oil-based primer), pretty much any paint would work just fine. Your idea for the model paint is a good one. My husband has worked with the Testors enamel on a non-model buiding project, and he was happy with the results. See if they have a color that works for you: http://www.testors.com/category/135897/Enamel_Paints

Let me know how it goes!

Hi. I don’t seem to be making any headway on your site. I am trying to paint my laminate (formica) bathroom vanity. I have already done the walls in silver metallic broad stripes and want to continue on the vanity…what do you recomend. will it need sanding and primer, just sanding? I also wish to change the hardware. What about the holes? Thanks for your assistance.
