How to Fold a Fitted Sheet

by Lindsay Ballard on January 10, 2011 34 Comments

Are you a wadder or a folder when it comes to fitted sheets?  I’m a wadder, baller, stuff-it-on-the-shelf-er.  Fitted sheets frustrate me to no end.

But, I figure that now I’m the mom to two kiddos, I need to grow up and learn how to fold a fitted sheet.  I found this great video on You Tube explaining the process, and it looks really easy.

What do you think? Do you folders have any tips for the rest of us?

TIP JAR
: If you have several different sized beds in your home, label the shelves of your linen closet with each size. It makes putting away your linens, and in turn, finding fresh sheets when you need them, much easier.

I’m with you – wad it and stuff it in the cabinet! I figure it gets stretched so tight across the bed, and nobody will ever see it, that wrinkles don’t matter.

But I’m the laziest putting-laundry-away-er in the whole world. Seriously. I get most of my clothes for the day from a basket at the foot of the bed.

Thanks for posting it though! I guess it is time to grow up, hahaha.

would it totally shock you to know that I actually fold my fitted sheets just like this? from the look of the rest of my messy house, I’d bet you never guess, right. Well I suppose I have an organized linen closet.

My mom never folded her fitted sheets and as a kid it always bothered me. I can remember doing laundry with her and being mystified that she would fold everything else perfectly, but bundle up the sheet. I vowed then and there I would always fold mine.. and I do. I don’t judge my mom, it’s just not a priority of hers (she never really grew up I guess 😉 but I’m more OCD so I don’t give myself the option.

I fold my fitted sheets like this as well. It seems to me I found the directions in a Martha Stewart magazine one time, and it definitely saves me space in my tiny linen closet. Another space saver (and a time saver, once you do the initial investment), is to keep your sheet sets inside the pillowcase. So, I will fold the flat sheet, fitted sheet, and one pillowcase, then slide them into the matching pillowcase. So, all I have to do is pull out the bundle, and I have a complete sheet set right there. VERY nice!

I roll all of my sheets and towels in my linen closet because it is tiny. That makes folding and semi wadding (rolling) OK ?

So funny! I don’t think twice about folding my fitted sheets! I do it the same way that was shown and it’s easy peasy!
My tip for sheets is to store the fitted sheet and top sheet inside the pillowcase for the set and store it in the closet of the room where the sheets are used. Middle of the night bedding change? Hardly have to turn on a light! Plus less chance of your fitted sheets falling to the ground and coming unfolded!

You all have guilted me into folding my sheets like this from now on. It usually takes guilt for me to change a bad habit. 🙂

I have to say…folding fitted sheets is NOT one of the biggest challenges I have faced in life. But I’m all for the crumple and shove in closet method. My tip is to just have 1 fitted sheet and wash it when needed. Never have to fold it ! Thanks for sharing the video though.

    Wow! I’m a wadder, stuff it in, make it fit {& then try to pull one out and watch them all come tumbling out of the closet! UGH}. Seeing this video makes it look so easy! I ALMOST want to get up and go fold one right now just to see if I can do it! {almost}

I also have always folded them this way. My tip is teach everyone in your house that will ever have to fold sheets how to do it by showing them the video. I will have show my 12 yr old daughter the video, I have tried to show her numerous time but I must not be a good teacher because whenever she folds the laundry I find the sheets still in the basket with a note ” Sorry I didn’t remember how to fold these the way you like so I left them for you:) Love you” lol

Wow, I guess Mom was right all along and I was doing it right. Well, except I have to lay mine across the bed to do the corner/corner matchy part. I’m too short and the sheets are king!! I too love Queen Mommy’s idea of putting them in the pillow case!!!! I was thinking I needed to put the sets in shirt boxes and label them (how terrible and time consuming is THAT?!!) But I tend to overwork and over analyze everything. Isn’t the www wonderful for such small things that can mean so much!!!

I fold mine but will admit they are not quite as neat ; )
I am with Queen Mommy, I put my sheets inside the pillow cases too. I started doing it after my son was born because I found it to be easier for my husband to help make up the bed if I am stressed for time.

I am a folder, but I wasn’t always that way. I actually went through our linen closet a few weeks ago and ended up throwing out quite a few sets of sheets that looked dingy. I was going to organize them like you said, but instead threw them out! Works for me! Ha!

Can’t tell you how much I need this post… made me smile when I saw it. Kimi and I were laughing because our husbands always know when our mom’s been helping us with laundry ’cause the fitted sheets are actually folded.
    THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!!

haha. Love this fun and unusual post. I’m a lot older than you and I never had this mastered. I just settled for one set of sheets per bed. Then no folding – ever! 🙂
    Have a great week.

I’m with Suzy – my mom taught me how to fold this way long ago…and I store them with the flat sheet and matching pillow cases on a labeled shelf. My husband thinks I’m crazy, but at least I don’t have to explain to anyone which sheets go where! 🙂 Love that you shared this!

This is great! I was so mad the other day when I was all tangled up in my fitted sheet. The bigger the bed, the harder they are to fold. I was at my wits in and new that I needed to youtube it. Glad I ran across your post. You did the work for me!
Now… you and I just need to get together. 🙂

This is totally how my mom taught me to fold fitted sheets. Though my husband insists that it’s some kind of fabric voodoo. He just can’t seem to wrap his head around how to do it. Oh well… I guess it gives me job security or something. 🙂

I store my linens for each bed in a big storage bin underneath that bed.
