My Project Gallery is Now Live!

by Lindsay Ballard on June 12, 2012 16 Comments

It’s hard for me to believe, but I’ve been going strong on this blog for about 3 1/2 years.  It’s been such a whirlwind of awesome and I am still giddy with each comment and pin a project receives.

One thing I’ve known for a long time is that my blog is WAY hard to navigate.  I like the projects and the paint – not so much the html and css.  I have pushed the computer stuff out of my mind for so long that now I have a lot of catching up to do.  I’ve got to make a way for you guys and future visitors to find what you are looking for when you visit my little home on the web.

To that end, I have finally put together a Project Gallery.  Eventually, it will be linked from my main navigation bar under my logo.  But, for now, I’m going to stick a little button in my side bar and announce it to all of you.  I went back through all of my blog posts and put together a gallery of the 100+ projects I’ve done over the years.  Each one is shown as a thumbnail with a brief title, and clicking on it will take you to the original post.  They are ordered from my most recent projects down to my first one.

I hope that you find it useful and run across some old projects that you haven’t gotten the chance to see.  It’s kind of weird for me to see 3+ years of my life laid out in thumbnails.

If there is anything else that you think may make my site easier to navigate, please let me know!  I’ll be working on all of that soon, so it would be nice to have some ideas from actual readers.  I know I see things so much differently than you guys do.

I didn’t have nearly as many to organize but I just recently made a project gallery and it takes forever. But boy does it make it so much easier for myself and of course my readers. Thanks for taking the time to do it! Lesley

It does take forever! It is fun to see it all laid out, though. Thanks!

That’s awesome, Lindsay! Would you be willing to share how you did it? Did you use a plugin? Also, I’d love to hear your strategy for keeping it updated. I have a how-to page that is not only lacking pictures but woefully out of date. It’s one of the most popular pages on my blog, though, so I really want to make the most of it!

Hi Charlotte- I’m happy to! I used a premium plug in for WP called Wall/Grid Gallery. It was $15, but totally worth it (I think). Here’s the link for that: http://codecanyon.net/item/wallgrid-gallery-wordpress-plugin/270895?ref=LivingWithLindsay You are able to change the colors, thumbnail size, etc.

The set up process took a while, since I had to upload all of the photos. I worked on it for a few hours each day for about 4-5 days. But, it’s really quick to do each one. So, I plan on uploading the photo and adding a title/link each time I post a new project. I think it will take me under a minute to do each one.

The gallery is terrific! I came across some of you projects I missed. Great job and I appreciate all the time you spent putting it together! Thank for you listing the plug-in you used. I would love to have a gallery and since I don’t have nearly as many projects as you, it would be a good time to get started.

Being new to your blog, it was fun to go through all of your projects. You have alot of credenza-type furniture! Makes me want to garage sale and surf through Craigslist again and start some new projects (never mind the dresser I bought to refinish for my daughter’s room after your blue credenza refinish! Great ideas. 🙂 Thanks!
