Boy Howdy!

by Lindsay Ballard on November 22, 2010 1,943 Comments

Oh, hey!  Look at that!  It’s been well over a week since I posted on this here blog.  What a slacker!

Well, actually I’m not really a slacker.  Things have been crazy busy in Lindsay Land over the last few weeks.  Surely, life will slow down as we head into the holidays, right?  😉

I have some fun things coming up here on the blog – including my biggest, largest, hugest giveaway ever and my very first post-baby project…it only took me 3 months to focus long enough to get something done, folks!

Oh, and just to meet your desire for a recent picture of Super Chunk, here’s my modern-day version of Laurel and Hardy (Zack’s a thin kid, but Emma makes him look even thinner!):

Yes, Emma’s cheeks are just as delicious as you would think.  Nom, nom, nom.  I could eat her up.

I have a winner to announce for the awesome Anna and Blue Paperie giveaway.  Congrats to Commenter #4, Nadir!  You are one lucky woman!

My Hat Rack

by Lindsay Ballard on October 29, 2010 9 Comments

When people ask me what I “do,” I giggle on the inside.  Back when I lived in Washington, DC, that was the question you were asked anytime you went anywhere.  Never have I been anywhere where what you do is so much of who you are.

These days, the answer to that question is no longer “Congressional legislative aide and grad student.”  Who knew that would be the easy time in my life?  Now, I wear so many different hats that I need my very own hat rack.

The Mommy Hat – My Mommy Hat is just a baseball cap I can throw on in the mornings over my crazy hair when we are running late for preschool.  I proverbially had it on this morning when we overslept, didn’t have time to make my coffee and diffused a meltdown over having to wear a jacket to school (oh, the horrors!).

Don’t get me wrong – the Mommy Hat comes out for fun things, too.  It was on while my friend took Emma’s two month photos and I got to try to make my chunky girl smile.

Thanks to Milestone Months for the adorable onesie!

It was also on during the preschool Halloween party, as I watched my mustache-less Super Mario ham it up for the camera and thank all of the parents who were taking pictures.  No, really – he was saying, “Thank you!  Thank you so much!” I guess he thought we were paparazzi?

The Mommy hat was also on when we got home from the party and had to hide the bags of candy and treats he’d been given. Sigh.  Is it just me, or do you dread this time of year, too?

The Crafty Hat – My Crafty Hat is a pink baseball cap that’s splattered with paint and primer.  You’ve seen it before.

Sadly, the Crafty Hat hasn’t gotten much use as of late.  I did have a fabulously adorable wreath that I was going to make and show you for Halloween.  Well, it’s been sitting half-way finished for weeks now, so I’m going to have to turn it into a Thanksgiving wreath…but, don’t hold me to that as it probably won’t be finished then either.  I miss wearing my Crafty Hat, and I hope that I can don it again very soon.

The Maid Hat – My Maid Hat is actually a bandanna slung over my hair to keep it out of my eyes.  As of late, the Maid Hat gets absolutely no wear.  It’s collecting dust itself on my hat rack.

The Stylish Hat – My Stylish Hat has sparkly and fabulous.  It’s actually been getting a lot of wear as I ease myself back into my Stella & Dot business.  I’m having a great time helping local gals get a jump start on their holiday shopping and getting their “mojo” back.  Mommies deserve to look great without a lot of effort, too!

If you or a loved one is fighting or has won the battle with breast cancer, I encourage you to check out our Stella & Dot Pink Boutique.  Through the end of this month, Stella & Dot is donating 20% of all items purchased through the Pink Boutique to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.  I love that, so I have decided to match their donation.  I really cherish the charm necklace I created for myself (mine has a breast cancer awareness ribbon charm, a “hope” charm, and a rose quartz charm), and I would love for you to think about creating one so that 40% of that purchase would go towards breast cancer research.  I’m all about shopping for a cause!

The Wife Hat – My Wife Hat is the gorgeous veil I wore on my wedding day.  Even though we’ve been only been married about 7 years, it seems like ages ago.  In that short span of time, we’ve seen 2 kids, 2 dogs and 2 houses come into our lives.  We better not keep expanding that quickly!

At any rate, my wife hat got a much needed dust off earlier this week as we celebrated my husbands birthday.  I finally bought him the GPS he’s been wanting forever…and managed to get the exact brand and model he’s been after.  Go me!  I’m totally proud of myself for that one, and he’s been spending tons of time playing with his new toy.

The Me Hat – My Me Hat is the wide brimmed straw hat I wear when I’m laying on the beach.  Needless to say, I haven’t worn it recently.  Perhaps I’ll wear it tonight in a bubble bath with a glass of wine.  Just thinking about it makes me happy.

I think my hat rack is running out of hooks!  How many hats do you wear?
