For some reason, the sixth week of a baby’s life is that magical week when things are supposed to be “better.” The new mom has her last postpartum check-up. The baby should be sleeping more at night. Nursing moms have most likely found a rhythm.
The thing we fail to realize is that “better” is not the same as “normal.” Or maybe it’s just me. Each time I find that things are getting “better,” I take on more responsibilities and life moves farther away from normal. I focus on the fun stuff and end up neglecting the stuff that really has to get done around here. At some point, I’m going to have to move all of our clean laundry from the landing on the stairs into our closets. That’s not really normal, is it? Sigh. At least the clothes are getting washed.
Thank you to Amy Jo at Milestone Months for this adorable onesie!
It’s been a hectic and exhausting six weeks, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

It’s time to pick some winners of the last two giveaways!
Terri, Commenter #68, is the winner of the My Cake School giveaway. And Shea, Commenter #14, is the winner of the ShadowCase giveaway. Congrats, ladies!
Awe, two is a big adjustment! Kudos to you for even doing the laundry! I would say it really stats to get better once the baby can hold her head up and you can put her on your hip or in a Boppy to get stuff done. At least that’s how it was for us. Good luck!!
It wasn’t “normal” until around 9 months! It is very hard – accept any help offered and by no means should you be doing laundry! Seriously, enjoy this time, it is a blink. Your house will be messy. You won’t shower. Things won’t get done. It’s temporary. Don’t stress.
Relax and enjoy that little one!
Hang in there Lindsay!! At 6 wks I was in Olan’s pedi crying. He never stopped screaming 🙁 . Of course we did get that under control a few months later. The pedi did tell me that 6 wks for normal babies is the fussiest usually, so hopefully it does get easier. Emma’s pic is so cute!
She is beautiful! What a blessing!
She’s beautiful indeed!
We have 8 weeks done here… And I’m not looking for normal yet. I spent the weekend nursing. Really, doing nothing else. At a point he was being feed every half of hour… I’m SO tired! but gotta be up so that my walls doesn’t transform as mural again (2 yr old my daughter have a tendency to find pencils unexpectedly. And she loves to share her arty point of view….) and those murals are hard to wash! and I don’t need the extra work. So instead I’m letting those black thing grow under my eyes! Oh well.
Dishes? ah! Yesterday I really felt like drinking some (well deserved) tea. Out of mug? Why, the measuring cup does the work!
oh, and I’m seriously thinking of buying Papa some more undies so I can space even more laundry time….
sorry for the long post… I’m just really at the same place you are right now!
Oh, we ARE in the same place! I had a similar weekend of nursing, but now all she’s doing is sleeping. She slept through the night for the first time last night and is already on her 3rd 2+ hour nap today. I feel a growth spurt coming on.
Hang in there! We can commiserate together (although it’s so worth it)!
Folded laundry on the steps isn’t normal?? Uh-oh. Normal is SO over-rated. Relax.
My sweet little girl will be 6 weeks tomorrow!! Time is flying!
I love the picture! She looks so sweet, but I know she’s a big contributor to that laundry pile!
I always tell new moms they get a “pass” for at least the first 6 months, sometimes longer. She is beautiful! and I love the onesie.
She is so beautiful!!
I cannot believe it has been six weeks! What a precious baby girl you have! I know how exhausting it can be, but I know you wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Bless you!

Happy one month Miss Emma!
She is one BIG baby girl…so precious! I love me some really chunky babies…why don’t you post more day to day pics of her? I know this isn’t a baby blog but I’m sure many of us would agree…Emma is some yummy eye candy ;o) She is 4 weeks in that onesie pic correct afterall it says “1 month” on it?
Oh, aren’t you sweet! Yes, she is a BIG ‘OLE girl. I think she’s about 13 lbs now at 7 weeks, which puts her off the growth charts. I love it, as my son was (and still is) skinny, skinny, skinny.
I haven’t been taking as many pictures as I should with my real camera. I have hundreds of cell phone pictures, though. Now that she’s smiling and cooing a ton, I need to take some real pictures. Poor girl – she’s the second child. 🙂
And she was actually 6 weeks in that photo. I couldn’t pull it together to get her picture taken at 4 weeks. So, I guess it should say “1.5 months.” LOL
