The Toile Channel

by Lindsay Ballard on October 6, 2010 19 Comments

My husband really doesn’t like our toile headboard.  I understand.  He’s a dude.  A love of toile is not really in his DNA.

The funny thing is that now he has two women under his roof that are obsessed with pastoral themes.  Apparently, the love of toile is genetic.

Other than laughing and giggling at Mommy, Daddy and Big Brother, Emma’s favorite pastime is staring at our toile headboard.  I’d love to think that she’s the next big interior designer, but I really know that the contrast of the navy scene on the white background is really interesting to her.  If I’m sitting on the bed and she has her head on my shoulder, Emma will gladly stare at the headboard for as long as we will let her.

The other day, my husband was taking care of Emma while I was trying to get a few things done around the house.  She was a bit fussy (“Daddy fussy” if you know what I mean – not really fussy to Mommy, but Daddy is kind of flustered because she’s not being perfectly quiet), so I heard him sit down on the bed and say to her, “Let’s see what’s on the Toile Channel.”  Staring at the headboard, she immediately calmed down.  Since then, we’ve had the Toile Channel dialed on quite often.

Occasionally, the Toile Channel doesn’t seem to work, and Tom remarks, “Hmmm…it must be a rerun.”  I think this is probably one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard, but it may come from my lack of sleep.

Emma is definitely a girl after my own heart.  Finally, I have someone else in the house who loves toile, since we know those stinky boys don’t appreciate it at all.

Giveaway Alert!

Putting on my other hat for a few minutes – I’d like to ask for your help in picking out a few pairs of new earrings for me.  I’m not a huge earring wearer myself – I’m much more of a big necklace gal – so I’d like to get your opinion on your favorite pair of Stella & Dot earrings that I should add to my trunk show display.  All you need to do is tell me on my S&D Facebook Fan page which pair is your favorite.  You’ll see the post where you should leave your comment.  On Friday, I’ll draw someone’s name to win the pair that she picked out.  Fun, huh?

I don’t think it’s just sleep deprivation – I find “changing the channel” to be just my kind of cheesy-funny.

As for the earrings, go for it! I love big earrings. Go big and bold. They really can make your entire outfit. If I had to choose, I’d go with the Goa Pendant earrings. Feminine, bright, gold. Perfect.

It really must be a DNA thing because my daughter and I love, love, love toile. In fact, the first thing I said when I foudn out I was having a girl was, “I have to decorate her room in toile!” My (ex)husband thought I was crazy. Maybe I am, but if loving it is wrong I don’t want to be right. 😉

BTW, I think you should choose the Riviera Coin Earrings- Silver. They are just perfect for any time or any situation. Since I’m not a single mom now, I live for things that are multifunctional.

How fortunate you are that you have something in your house that can sooth Emma and it is toile no less. Raising the girl right! Oh and congratulations! Enjoy her…they truly grow up too fast.

LOL!! Our daughter was obsessed with the chain lock on our front door and playing with it would lull her to sleep. My husband used to lean his back against the door with her on his shoulder, half-doze (in the way new parents can, lol) until she fell asleep. 🙂

My 4 year old son actually cried and begged me not to sell the Toile curtain and fabric I had posted on Craigslist. Somehow he fell in love with that toile curtain hanging over the door in our basement. So I just sold the extra fabric – guess I’ll be making new curtains for his room….

I love it! We have a damask bedspread in our room that our little girl loves to look at! Also thinking the black and white contrast! We often have to turn on the “damask channel” ha ha!
