Where in the World is Living With Lindsay?

by Lindsay Ballard on July 6, 2012 21 Comments

This weekend, my kids (Zack, 6 and Emma, almost 2) and I will set off on a two-week, 3000 mile road trip.  Along the way, we’ll visit fun destinations, gather with family and even pop in on some friends (including some fellow Home Decor bloggers that you know and love).  My husband is staying home for work and to take care of “Cone Dog.”  It’s yet to be determined if I’m the funnest mom ever or off my rocker insane, but I’m leaning towards the later.

Obviously, I won’t be doing any big DIY projects over the next two weeks, although I do have a few that I finished recently and will be sharing with you while I’m gone.  Instead of trying to come up with some sort of “Hey, I’m on vacation and need to post something just to post something” type posts, I thought you and I could play a little game.

HA!  I hope that you sang the “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” song in your head like I did in mine.

Throughout the next few weeks, I’ll be posting photos and stories from the road here on the blog.  At the end of my trip, there will be a scavenger hunt type contest for you guys to figure out where we went.  Everyone who guesses the destinations correctly – and in the correct order – will be entered to win a Bag of Swag.  The contents of said Bag of Swag are secret, but I promise that it will be worth your while.  Like, really, really worth it.

Okay, so here’s how it’s going to go down:

1)  After we leave a location, I will post photos and stories about said location.  Obviously, I will wait until we leave, since I don’t want someone to try to kidnap me for my furniture painting abilities.

2)  I will post additional hints and photos to my Facebook page.  If you aren’t already joining in the conversations there, please go ahead and “Like” my page.  I’m having so much fun with those of you who are already there…and you guys at least know who “Cone Dog” is.

3)  You are welcome to take a guess at the locations in the comments section of each post, but it won’t count as an actual entry.  Those will all have to be comments in the last post (which will be obvious).  If you’d like to comment just to talk to me, please do.  My comments are sent to my phone, so it would be nice to hear from you guys along the way…Unless you want to say something that may lead to road rage, in which case you should just keep that to yourself (forever).

4)  If you are a local friend of mine who knows where I’m going, you don’t get to play.  Just sayin’.

5)  Don’t worry, not every post over the next few weeks will be trip related.  I’ve got some projects and inspirational goodies lined up, too.

So, who wants to play?  And if you have any words of advice for me regarding the 3000 mile road trip (other than “You are crazy!” which I’ve already heard eleventy billion times), please pass them along!

See ya on the road!

Sounds fun Lindsay – very cute idea, and most of all, have fun! I do think you’re kinda insane to take a two week trip with your kids on your own, lol – totally kidding (I could never do it). I’m sure it’ll be memorable!!! xo Jenna

My mom and I made annual car trips from Oregon to Minnesota every summer, most of them just the two of us. I have some fond memories of those trips…hoping your crazy leads to good memories for all of you as well!

Pretty sure my cool-mom and insane-mom moments come at the same time! Best of luck on your trip. We took a long one a few years ago with 3 adults and 5 kids. It was crazy, but tons of fun. The kids still talk about it. We were flexible within our schedule and left lots of time to relax and get out of the car – it worked out pretty well.

We went on a 4,598 mile road trip and had tons of fun, and even still liked each other at the end of it. Pack a cooler with snacks and drinks. I find that strategically dispensed surprises along the way kept my daughter occupied for hours (new movie, new coloring book, etc. Dollar store goodies, most of the time) Books on CD rock. Stop at every state welcome center and take a picture.

I did a trip like this once with 4 kids. I found that if I gave them a little surprise every 100 miles it made everyone happier and made the time go faster. They could follow along with the miles. They loved it! We did not go 3000 miles so you may want to change your mileage to 300. 🙂 Good luck. You are one brave chick-a-dee!

I love roadtrips and where in the world games, so I am in!
We did a 2000 mile road trip with a toddler and had a blast. So I think you will be fine. Here is what we did.
Leave around 6am. Drive for 2 hours. Around 8, stop for breakfast and planned activities until lunch. Then hit the road after lunch taking full advantage of nap time. Then, stop around 5, go to a park or playground, eat dinner and drive a little more until bedtime.

Hope you have fun and stay safe!

Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little
lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid
option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally overwhelmed ..
    Any ideas? Cheers!

Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote
and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog
blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips for rookie blog writers?
    I’d definitely appreciate it.

I do not know if it’s just me or if everybody else encountering problems with your
blog. It appears as if some of the text on your content are running off
the screen. Can someone else please comment and let me know if
this is happening to them too? This may be a problem
with my web browser because I’ve had this happen before.
    Many thanks
