Out with the old and in with the new! I welcome 2013 with my first project of the new year.
My little 2-year old Emma is just growing like a weed. We’ve upgraded her hairbows to a larger size, and our old hairbow storage was falling far short of the solution we needed. I asked some friends what kind of storage they used, and most of them said that they use a bow holder similar to these on Etsy (and one suggested I buy fewer bows – Touché!).
Those I found on Etsy are definitely cute, but I’m not really a cutesy gal. So, I came up with my own DIY solution. I call it the My Favorite Things bow holder.
1. Hot glue small dollar store plastic toys (featuring some of your child’s favorite things), letters and beads to a wooden plaque or block of scrap wood. The more you can cover the wood, the fuller it will look. Prime the entire piece with spray paint primer and then spray paint it in the color of your choice with spray paint that works well on plastic (I recommend Rustoleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover 2x).
2. Add rhinestones with hot glue to give it a little sparkle. I used two different sizes for better visual interest.
3. On the back of the plaque, add a frame hanger or loop of ribbon to hang the holder (I just hot glued mine in place). Also glue a few lengths of grosgrain ribbon in the widths of your choice.
4. Hang the new bow holder from a nail and add your bows.
Eventually, Emma’s bows will hang in her bedroom. But until she can be trusted (ahem, she’s two), they hang in my bathroom.
Do you have someone in your life who could use a cute and easy DIY bow holder?
LOVE this! I am SO making one for Kynlee!!!
I don’t have a little girl, but I would totally make this if I did. I’d be tempted, however, to paint everything white except the name! I’d have to make that a pop color.
