My Nursery Inspiration

by Lindsay Ballard on March 8, 2010 516 Comments

For several months now, I’ve been trying to picture in my mind’s eye the perfect nursery to assemble for my soon-to-be little one. All I can picture is soft, neutral colors. No bright pink or bright blue. No giant polka dots on the walls. No cars painted on every square inch of space (although we still love my son’s room).

I thought it was odd that I kept gravitating to white and tan. Those colors don’t seem very “baby” to me, but it was really the direction I was headed. Then, I saw this photo, and I knew I was right on the money.

How beautiful! It’s very gender neutral and very understated, but gorgeously elegant at the same time.

I plan on mimicking the canopy over the crib, the sweet shelf hanging on the wall (mine will showcase vintage baby clothes), the chandelier, and even the paint and trim technique. My crib is a blonde wood, but I still think I can make it work – my grandmother bought the crib for us as a gift before my son was born, so I’m NOT going to get rid of it simply because it doesn’t match perfectly.

The only thing that I think I will change will to be to add in some tiny pink accents. I definitely don’t want anything over the top, but I do want to add it in somewhere for an elegant splash of color.

Wait, did you catch that? Pink?!? It’s a GIRL!

Pink or Blue? What Say You?

Tomorrow, our little family is going to find out who will be joining us at the end of August. I am absolutely the most impatient person on Earth, so we are finding out now if Zack will be having a Baby Brother or a Baby Sister.

As with any mother-to-be, I’m desperate to find out the gender of the new baby. I’ve taken every Old Wives’ Tale test, lunar calendar calculator, and product I can pee on in an effort to have an early guess. Here’s what those tests have told me:

My intuition – Boy
Intelligender test – Girl
Red Cabbage test – Boy
Old Wives’ Tale tests – Girl
Chinese Lunar Calendar – Girl
Moon Sign (Aires) – Boy
Conception Timing (Shettles Method) – Boy

Yes, I’m insane. The results are pretty mixed, though. I’m still guessing we’ll be on Team Blue again.

What do you think? Pink or blue? What say you?
