In less than a month, hundreds of antique dealers from across the world will descend on a tiny little Texas town in hopes of unloading their wares. And I, in turn, will be there waiting to take some of their goodies off of their hands.
Perhaps one of the most famous antique shows in the the country, the Round Top Antique Weekend, is more than just a bunch of vendors set up in a parking lot. It quite literally encompasses several small towns and all of the barns, buildings, fields, hen houses, dog houses, and outhouses in the area. Okay, maybe not outhouses, but you catch my drift. This is a mecca to people like you and I, and it only happens twice a year – once in the spring and a smaller show in the fall. There are all sorts of vendors, from dealers of fine antiques (read: too rich for my blood) to “junk” and flea market dealers (read: much more my speed).
This year, I will finally get to say that I’ve shopped Round Top, and I’m inviting you, my dear readers, to join me! On Saturday, April 2nd, I’m heading over that way for an all-day extravaganza. I am setting up a carpool/caravan for those of you who live in Central Texas and would like to come along. You other Texas readers who live elsewhere can meet up with us at Round Top. We’ll shop, laugh, eat, inspire each other, and just have a grand ‘ole time.
If you’d like to come along or meet up in Round Top, either email me or leave a comment below. I’ll work on getting the details arranged. I think we have to pay admission to the big shows, and I’m sure we’d have to pay for parking. Other than that, you’ll need to save your cash for finding some new goodies for your home.
I can’t wait to go shopping with some of y’all! But, if one of you tries to put one of these creepy things in my car, I’m leaving you in Round Top.
Oh Lindsay – those images are amazing!! But I’m in Brisbane Australia and I just don’t think I’ll be able to make it – more’s the pity!!!
Oh my goodness! I think I’ll fly to TX for spring break instead of trying to go to Italy and/or Greece. My inlaws would kill me since I’d be hauling all my finds back to their house lol Can’t wait til I actually find a house & move so I can shop til everybody else drops lol
Well, we can switch places. I’ll go to Greece if you want to come here. 😉
I think my Mom are I are going again this year, we had a blast the last time we went! I’ll let you know!
Cool! I’ll keep you in the loop in case you want to join up!
That show looks absolutely amazing! I would love to join your group, but alas, I’m in Ohio. It looks like it’d be a crafters/artists dream. Sigh…..
Hi!
I have been to these shows a couple of times. The dealers come in to buy by Wed. and pick the goodies. Anyone can go at that time if they want. They do charge for parking around $5. Food and drinks are expensive so you might want to bring a sack lunch. Wear comfortable shoes there is a lot of walking. There are people selling from Marberger all up and along the road to Round Top. Have fun!
Thanks for the tips!! I SOOO wish I could go earlier!
Dang it! The boys have their first t-ball games on the 2nd, otherwise I would sooooooo be there!
Stupid t-ball. 🙂
I didn’t know you were in Central Texas . .. I am too. I went to Round Top last fall and I really found some great deals. I soooo want to go this spring, but it will be too much because we will be going in the Fall again this year. Have tons of fun!!!
YAY! I almost forgot about this. I haven’t been but am going to try and talk the hubby into it. I am on the west side of Houston. I will let you know for sure if I plan on going.
Yay! I’ll keep you in the loop and hope you can make it!
Lindsay, Thanks for the great pictures, you just convinced me even more I need to be there at least a couple of the days. We have never been and I was wondering in which area did you take these pictures, as this is the sort of stuff we like too. We are fixing to start our barndominium and I can see spending lots of money this weekend as I want to do it all vintage and rustic…. Thanks and we may join up in your caravan for Saturday…
Fun!! I didn’t actually take the photos – I found them all on Flickr. But, if you search for “Round Top Antiques” on Flickr, all sorts of amazing photos come up. A lot of them say at which of the locations they were taken.
I can’t wait!
Do NOT invite Heather to go shopping with you … you *know* one of those creepy things would be purchased! LOL
I gotta find these kinda places in Colorado!! Any ideas?
No clue, but I’ll keep my eyes/ears open!
I’m just north of Houston and would love to meet up with some fun people! You should also arrange a trip to Canton sometime. : )
Yay! I’ll keep you in the loop! And I must say, Canton is a FAB idea! I grew up in NE Texas so we went to Canton a ton. I’ll work on making that happen sometime soon, too!
I have been searching for something like this in France. I am determined to find it! I would love to go shopping there!
Oh, I bet there are all sorts of amazing things like this in France! I’m so jealous!
I wish I could join you at Round Top. But a trip from the Northeast to Texas is a bit too far. It looks amazing!!
Ruth
Don’t think you could make the drive? 😉
I’m there! I’ve been trying to figure out how to get a group together since most of my local gal pals here aren’t really into Round Top shopping. I’ll be coming from San Antonio. Be sure to let me know when & where to meet up!
Awesome! I’ll keep you in the loop!
My friend Audrey & I were planning on going that day from Round Rock – we’d love to join in the caravan!
Perfect! I’ll keep ya updated!
When you are there you need to go to my mom’s shop! She lives in Carmine, TX which is about 2 minutes from Round Top. She is only open during the shows. She is right in front of Carmine Hall and her shop is called Emily and Company! You will love it and her house is amazing….built in the 1800’s. Have fun….it’s an awesome experience!
How fun! We’ll have to stop by!
I actually live in Brenham…just down the road from Round Top. Even when I lived in Austin…I never missed this amazing shopping event!! It is HUGE for our small part of the country — and SO much fun!! Marburger Farms is fine…but you can find all the same things without having to pay to get in! We will be there for several days because you cannot see everything in one day! Have fun and maybe I will see you out there!
Awesome! Do you have any must-sees? There are just SO many that I don’t even know where to start! Wish I could go for several days, but I know my husband would not be happy watching the kiddos for that long. 🙂
Well…let’s see! There are so many different places to see and so many different things to buy. If you actually shop in Round Top on the square – you are looking at more of the artsy and crafty things. A lot of cute shops, though! Our favorite place is Warrenton. There is such a great mix of things to see and buy there. We park in the Young Life parking lot (which is $5 but goes to a good cause). Walk across the street from the parking lot and you can go up or down the hill. Don’t miss eating at Third Base…some of the best hamburgers around — plus ice cold beer! And..they have the best bathrooms. Royers is also a great place to eat. Thursday night is Prom — and if you have never been, I highly recommend it. Tons of live music, free food and drinks and lots of fun costumes! You can’t go wrong with anywhere during this FUN time of the year!
I think I’ve forgotten to thank you for all this great info!
I’ve been waiting for this for a while! My first chance to make the trek on down from Austin – can’t wait!!
Yay!
I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go to Round Top for the big weekend! Maybe this year I’ll actually recruit my mom and MIL to go with me. A fun little girls weekend for us, driving over from Katy!
You should go! It would be a fun girls weekend!
Sounds like a fun trip but I’ll be at Bizaare Bazaar in Richmond that weekend. I’m with you, leave the creepy doll heads at the show.
I so want to go to this (would be coming from New Braunfels)! I will have the check the calendar because I think there might be a nephew birthday party that weekend, but I’ve heard amazing things about this event! I’ll keep an eye on your blog to see what arrangements you’re making because I’d LOVE to meet up with fellow Texan bloggers and do some shoppin’!
A Canton trip would be super fun too!!
Awesome! And I totally agree – Canton would be amazing, too!
Where is Round Top? Sounds like fun
It’s between Austin and Houston, not too far off of Hwy 290.
I’d love to go! I’m in the Dallas area. Please keep me updated on getting a group together.
Will do!
Dang. I am super jealous. Texas is a bit far of a drive from Southern Ontario though, and importing it back would be a pain. I wish I knew if something like this existed in Ontario. if anyone knows of one flip me a note!
Darn! You mean you can’t make that trip? 🙂
It figures that I would learn about something awesome close- ish to my hometown when I’m currently in another state for school. I’m going to be amazingly jealous of those who get to go!
I’m interested . . . would be coming from north of Dallas.
Great! I’ll add you to the “in the loop” group! I’ll be sending out an email or something in the next week or so w/ some more details.
Interested as well! I’m in Georgetown. 🙂
Great! I’m going to email out some details this weekend!
Sign me up! I live here in Round Rock. Get me the details and I’m totally in!!!
Yippee! I’m going to put together some details to go out this weekend. Can’t wait!
Wow! Some gal friends are driving from Dallas to my house in Austin later this week and on Friday we’re headed to Round Top. It’s the first time for all of us. If anyone has some suggestions on agendas or what not to miss please let me know.
Thanks.
Susan
