Spooky Halloween Inspiration

by Lindsay Ballard on September 28, 2011 9 Comments

As October 1st nears, my son’s pleas to put up the Halloween decorations reaches a fevered pitch.  He becomes more excited about Halloween with every passing year, and I’m more than happy to encourage his excitement.  He’s been counting down the days to this weekend, so I thought a little decorating plan was in order.  We have to find a way to merge my “pretty” with his “scary”- he is a 5-year old boy, after all!

We’ll get the decorating finished (started?) this weekend, but here’s some inspiration showing the way we’re headed. I’ve decided on a spooky theme this year.

What’s your Halloween decorating inspiration? Do you go for cute? Gory? Haunted?  What’s your poison?

P.S. Together with Elmer’s, I’m throwing a Craft and Tell party for friends and local readers on Friday, October 7th.  We’ll be decorating craft pumpkins, and everyone will get to take home a gift pack of Elmer’s and X-Acto products!  If you are local (I live in a “pfun” location, just outside of Austin, Texas) and would like to attend, let me know in a comment and I’ll send you the Evite.  There’s not a ton of room left, so I apologize in advance if I’m not able to include you this time!

I have been trying to decorate for Halloween for 2 weeks now! I just haven’t had a minute!! It’s our favorite holiday. We go for the spooky, haunted look!

Those are some very cute ideas.

I like a cute/creepy mix when decorating for Halloween. I have three boys under the age of 6, so I like for the decorations to get them excited about it without giving them nightmares!

Any excuse to use colored Christmas lights and I’m in! I have a huge spider thing I put on my front window and I hang orange pumpkin lights wherever I can find some room. I love the mantle shown. I’m not sure I’d go so far to cover my furniture with sheets, but it is a great idea. I planned on dragging out the Halloween stuff this weekend too. It’s finally going to be October!

Decorating for Halloween is second to Christmas around here. I tend to go with a vintage look. We have more “scary” decorations for when we host Halloween parties. I may combine them this year. Still debating. Right now I’m trying to knock off one of the Pottery Barn porch looks. Maybe I’ll even get around to another post about it. I’m not as dedicated as you professionals! 🙂 Can’t wait to see what you decide to do!
