Earlier in the week, I talked about some ways to save money when you are shopping in a home improvement store. One of those tips was that you should buy in bulk when it’s something that you use often.
One of the items that I like to always have on hand is filters for our HVAC system. We need 3 different sized filters (WHY, HOME BUILDERS? WHY?), so keeping a supply on hand makes it look like we are ready to open our own filter store.
We like to keep them on hand for several reasons. First, because their mere existence is a reminder that we need to change our filters. Each time I open our coat closet (aka junk closet) they almost fall on top of me. It’s like they are each vying to be cast in The Replacements. We try to remember to replace them every 3 months so that the air quality in our home isn’t filled with things like allergens, pet dander and cooking odors.
Trying to remember to change the filters leads to reason #2: We have a hard enough time remembering to replace the filters. Remembering to buy them is just one more thing to remember. So, we buy them in bulk (enough to last a year) so that we don’t have to remember to remember. Since 3M Filtrete offers rebates (here’s one valid through the end of the year) when you buy in bulk, we end up saving money in the long run. You can buy them at Lowe’s, Target, Walmart, Costco and your local home improvement store.
Another reason? 3M Filtrete filters make awesome forts. That alone is reason enough.
I mean, look at those faces.
Now, I can’t promise that you’ll get enough filters to build a fort, but one of you will win a Healthy Home prize pack from 3M Filtrete! One random winner will receive a prize pack of Filtrete Filters and Filtrete Water Filtration products. Love the shot of your kiddos! cuties! xo Kristin
Would Love to win this! Thanks for the chance.
I feel your pain. We have two different filters. And to make things even more complicated our builder and the guys who installed the HVAC system? Do not agree on which types of filters to use, and in some spaces, whether to use a filter or not.
The HVAC company swears no filter should be used at the giant return air grill on the main floor of the house. But the builder? They say it’s vital to use a really high numbered filter in that spot. And at the furnace itself? They totally disagree on which type of filter to use.
I’m building a Mommy Fort! 🙂 LOL
OMG, look how big your kids are! I feel like they’ve grown up so much since the last time you shared a photo of them. Is that creepy of me to say? And of course you’ve inspired me to buy air filters in bulk. We are so bad about replacing them regularly.
