When I woke up this morning, I realized what terrible shape my house was in.  Between my kids being out of school the entire week, me trying to finish the painting project that will never die, hosting Thanksgiving dinner and taking care of a visiting cat, it was gross – there was just no way around it.

We had a “family cleaning party” and worked on getting everything put away in its proper place.  Just having everything straightened up always makes the house look about 75% better, doesn’t it?  Well, until I looked down at the tile floors.

Can you see the brown spots?  Yeah, those aren’t supposed to be there. Yuck!

Luckily, HomeRight recently sent me a new chenille mop pad for my SteamMachine Plus Steam Mop. Until now, I’d been using the microfiber mop pads that come with the unit (as you can see from the dirt stained areas on the microfiber pad below).

The microfiber mop pad has cleaned up my tile floors just fine.  It takes more work that I expected, though, because it only really picks up dirt around the edges.  And as you can see in the below image, a quick swipe of it over the floor doesn’t get up as much dirt as you might hope.

I think it’s because of the way the SteamMachine Plus Steam Mop (affiliate link) is built.  The center of the mop head is raised.  I’m sure there is a fabulous engineering reason for this, but it doesn’t change the fact that you have to make sure you clean every bit of your floors with just the sides of the unit.

Okay, so then I put the chenille pad on the steam mop and mopped the same area.  All of those little chenille “fingers” really did a nice job on the floor!

Not only did it the floor come clean more easily, but you can definitely see where it’s picking up dirt better in the center of the mop.

I love it when a company finds a way to make a great product even better through a little addition like this.  Yay!  Here’s a comparison of how the two mop pads cleaned that one little area of my floor.

    I’d love to have a steam mop for my tile floors. I’ve scrubbed enough grout lines over the years and I’m hoping a steam mop will let me retire from that.

    I would love to win a steam mop!! We just moved to a place with pesky tile just like yours and I have 4 kids and am pregnant and getting on my hands and knees is just too taxing!! It’s actually on my Christmas list 🙂 happy holidays!!

    With three dogs of my own and usually two foster pups, the vacuuming and mopping never ends. Rainy season is awful! Would love this steam mop to help with cleaning up after my four legged loves!

    i won one of these steamers from another blogger a couple of months ago and while it’s “okay” it doesn’t compare to my Shark that bit the dust…I guess I never realized about the mop only cleaning the side area but I noticed how my pad was dirty on the sides only…duh! I might have to order the blue chenille pad.

    I have owned Shark steamers and have never really been that pleased with them except for the fact that steam does make everything squeaky clean. I would love to own this steamer as I miss that steam clean feel but have swore off of the Shark brand. Thanks for the opportunity!!

    I have a friend who has one of these and she was just telling me how much she loved it. My husband would kill me if I bought one more thing to make cleaning the floors easier and I don’t think he’d buy me one even if I put it on my Christmas list!

    Hi, I would like to win the SteamMachine Plus Steam Mop very much. I am recovering from a total hip replacement with added complications from the surgery. I am now getting back on my feet after a year and a half of the complications. All of my floors are either wood or ceramic and haven’t been really clean in all that time. So to win this steam cleaner right now would be wonderful for me and my home. I appreciate your consideration with winning this. I also want to add that I own the spray painter and have been able to turn out some nice pieces of furniture that I was able to sell for some income. Thank you
