You May Now Rejoice

by Lindsay Ballard on January 30, 2010 24 Comments

Notice something different?

Yep, those annoying Google ads that were up there are now gone.

I know I said I’d give it a few weeks. I decided 4 or 5 days was enough. I just couldn’t do it. I’ll be honest – I cringed every time I looked at my blog. I know you did, too. When I started losing sleep over it, I knew that I just couldn’t deal with it anymore.

I got a ton of feedback about the ads and most if it (to my surprise) was very positive. I don’t think that I would have lost readers over it, but I didn’t want you to get an icky vibe from my fun little blog. At the end of the day, I just needed to take a step back, breathe, and remember that my blog is growing by leaps and bounds because my projects are fun and my content is good. Well, it’s either that or you like to laugh at me when I burn my fingers with the glue gun.

Truth be told (for those of you who are interested), I actually made about 10 times more revenue with the Google ads for the days they were at the top of my content than I do when they are just in the sidebar or wherever. My experiment was definitely successful monetarily, but it’s wasn’t emotionally. My emotions win every time.

You guys are the best, and I really do appreciate all of the advice and feedback. Thank you for hanging in there with me. Now, who wants to come over and help me build the arbor in my backyard I was hoping I could pay some dudes to build? Any takers? 😀

I honestly didn't even notice them. I've pretty much trained myself to tune ads out on blogs/websites. So, for what it's worth, people like me didn't notice or care either way. If they were making you money, go for it. If you don't like them, that's a different story. Just don't take them away because you worry about readers like me.

Linds, I had google ads for a while and yeah, the checks were nice but I cringed every time I saw them on my blog and just didn't feel like they fit. I don't know. I have said so many times, I over think things. Then again, I don't think a day goes by I think I should put them back because I never ever mind when they are on someone else's blog. It would be nice if I could figure out how to promote myself to sponsors.

I * think* I have the same type of ads on mine (!?! maybe ?!?)

and it's for sure not making me rich. But they're relevant, and if it's something to add towards our neverending adoption budget, than I figure, why not!?

So while I don't love mine, they don't take away, and since they're at least relevant, they may help someone. I don't know.

    🙂

Your honestly and genuine approach to "real life" is so refreshing. My blog is brand new so I do not feel I have any place in the sponsor or google ad world…how can I? Thank you for your talents and your integrity.

    Cheers~

I know what you mean about Google ads. Sometimes they're fine when they have a nice looking ad, but other times they can be annoying. I think you should ad some to your side bar somewhere. You have room. And maybe in some older posts that still receive a ton of traffic. There's my two cents for the day…LOL!

Too bad you're in Texas or we would be there to help you out!

Could you put them on the sidebar instead or right there in the middle of your post? I know there are different sizes and formats to use. It's worth a shot, if you were making money on it. Just an idea. 🙂

I made the comment, when you first posted about the ads, I was curious to see how the experiment would go and I didn't really care for the ads. You know what? I still came to your blog every single day, becaus you rock and I really like your blog. Do what makes you happy!

Girly I'd rather you'd keep getting more $$ from revenue to fund those awesome projects you blog!! Just real talk. These projects aren't always cheap (or free for that matter).
